Rock Climbing development Instructor (RCDI)

I’ve been a Course Director for the RCDI since it began in April 2019. I have teamed up with Dan Mckinlay http://www.mckinlaymountaineering.com/rcdi for both course development and delivery which has been a very successful and enjoyable partnership enabling us to run larger courses and fine tune our delivery of this fantastic award.

The Rock Climbing Development Instructor qualification is for experienced instructors wishing to develop a participant’s rock climbing proficiency. This development may extend to lead climbing.
A qualified Rock Climbing Development Instructor can operate on single pitch trad and sport crags, indoor and outdoor bouldering venues, climbing walls and towers. It builds on the skills acquired in the Rock Climbing Instructor (old SPA) qualification, which candidates must hold prior to registration.

In order to attend an RCDI training course you must first of all apply to register for the scheme (£59). Once your application has been accepted you can attend a 4 day training course (£395) and begin the consolidation process. It is advisable to leave at least 12 months between training and assessment although if you are suitably experienced you may attend an assessment 6 months after training. The assessment is 3 days (£395). All of our courses are currently based in the Peak District near Hathersage. Excellent RCDI training course, delivered ably by both Dan McKinlay and Andy Swann. I have been on a few courses run by both Dan and Andy and they are always top draw! Dare I say, at least as good as Plas y Brenin or the Lodge! I couldn’t recommend them highly enough: both really friendly, very knowledgeable and able to put you completely at ease :)

Importantly you (Dan & Andy) led by example and made the course informative and fun which in today’s world is only a good thing. Safety, smiles and learning, isn’t that the way?
